Alpha is a space to pause, take a breath, and explore the bigger questions of life in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Whether you have a faith, had one once, or have never really thought about it, you are invited to come and see what it is all about. No pressure, no expectations, just good conversations and a chance to be curious.

Here at The Wave, we run Alpha to create space for people in our community to ask real questions about life and faith. We also join with other churches across the Bellarine who run Alpha, so you are part of something bigger happening across our region.

Your first night is all about experiencing Alpha for yourself.

Week 1 is titled “Is there more to life than this?”

We will watch a short, engaging video and then open up the space for conversation.
You can jump in and share your thoughts, ask questions, or just sit back and listen.

No one is put on the spot. No one is expected to have answers. No one is even expected to share. You get to participate in a way that feels right for you.

Alpha is a series of sessions where we watch a short video and then have a conversation about it.

You can ask questions, share your thoughts, or just listen.

It is a safe space to explore, with no pressure to say anything or come back.

Some Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a Christian to come to Alpha?
Not at all! Alpha is designed for anyone who is curious about life, faith, and meaning. You don’t need to know anything about the Bible or have been to church before.

How much does it cost?
Alpha is completely free. Sometimes we might offer supper,  but there’s no charge to participate.

What if I don’t want to talk?
That’s totally fine. You’re welcome to just listen. No one is pressured to say anything or to pray.

What actually happens at an Alpha session?
Each week we share some food or refreshments, watch a short video, and then break into small groups to chat about life’s big questions. It will often be the same small group of people each week.

How long does Alpha run for?
Alpha usually runs for 6 weeks, with each session lasting about 2 hours. You can come to the first one and decide if you’d like to continue.

What if I miss a week?
No problem! Come back the next week when you can. Each session is a stand-alone conversation.

Can I bring a friend?
Absolutely! Alpha is even better when you come with someone you know.

Do I need to register?
We’d love you to register so we can save you a spot, but you’re also welcome to just turn up.

Where is it held?
We meet at The Wave Church, Cnr Wallington Rd and Lake Ave, Ocean Grove. Parking is available and it’s close to public transport.
